A guitar jam…

Since my In-Depth project has evolved from learning harmonica, (which I am most definitely still doing) to performing and playing music in general, one thing that is on the top of my to-do list is to learn a bunch of new songs for this cool thing at Evergreen Cultural Centre in a few weeks.

The All-Canadian Guitar Jam, held on March 20th, is something I thought would be awesome to participate in from the minute I found out what it was. Basically, it’s where a bunch of guitar players, of any skill level, and just people who want to go and listen, are going to get together and play and sing a bunch of songs. To me, it sounds like a great opportunity to play with other guitar players (which I do get to do every day in guitar class now) and just have fun doing something a little different with guitar.

On a different note, I emailed my awesome mentor about doing open mike night (which I’m pretty sure she organizes), so I’m not sure what’s really going on with that yet, but I hope that this will be another thing for me to overcome (stage fright, I guess) and learn something from. I’m actually about as excited as I am nervous to really get my In-Depth going and learn more about music and performing.

So overall, I think it’s going pretty well, I’ve been playing harmonica a few hours a week, which I suppose is steadily getting a bit better every time I pick it up. And I’m working on learning more songs on the list for the Guitar Jam, so all I really need to do with that is keep learning songs and, well, actually buy a ticket. More updates to come!

P.S. That last exclamation point did in fact feel cheesy, but it seems weirder without it…
